How to push yourself to become even better

Be the best version of yourself!

This phrase has been in my life for some years now. Sometimes I think “What does that really mean?!”

I am always trying to grow to become a better human. Usually the people I like to hang around with or work with are striving for this too.

When we talk about becoming better, the G word gets thrown around a lot.

GOALS.

Yuck or Yay?

Working with 100s of people has taught me that goals are hot and cold for people.

Some people love them and are driven by them and others simply hate them and are demotivated by them.

In the past, I have been irritated by goals.

They make me mad because if I don’t achieve them, then somehow that makes me a terrible person who’s not smart enough to achieve goals. Lame!

Seriously – stop that terrible self talk.

I still want to become better in most areas of life sooo what do I do!?

  • First – with a lot of “I don’t wanna” attitude – I set a goal.
  • Second – I outline the tasks that should take me to the goals.
  • Third – I get to work on the task and consider it a WIN if I complete the tasks.

Sounds pretty easy – but for some reason it’s not that simple.  For myself and others, we usually need ONE more thing.  The secret sauce.

Layers of accountability.

We need to know someone or 3 someones are going to check in on us. Even better – we have homework due for someone.

It’s easier for ME to push myself to follow through on my work to others. I won’t often break my word to others  like I might break my word to myself.  {Why is that!!??}

Action Item: Find another human to check with you on your goals!

If you’ve done these steps and you still aren’t following through, then consider:

  • Maybe it’s a bad goal meaning you don’t really care about it – I could do a whole post about this – simply – don’t torture yourself over failing to achieve something you don’t really care about or aren’t serious about at this time.
  • Maybe you need a better strategy. Working with others can help you to see things you don’t see.

Friends can help you with this and so can coaches. As a coach, I help people move forward in areas where they are stuck. It’s not that they couldn’t do it on their own, but it’s EASIER and more efficient when you have a coach who is super familiar with the area where you’re stuck.

We all need these layers in our life.

Set a goal and share it with 3 people today.

Surround yourself with people who think you’re amazing and push you to think and do bigger things than you think you can.

You got this.

Send me a note if you’re looking for a circle of amazing humans!
