I Could Never Touch My Toes & Other Lies We Tell Ourselves

Today, I want to address something that I have heard EVERYBODY say including myself.

It’s a phrase that starts with “I could never…” {insert your favorite thing to say you could never do}

Let’s start with: I could never touch my toes.

Someone said this to me at a meet-up today, and I was inspired to share about it.

It’s a perfect topic because we all do this.

But WHYYYY?

We say “I could never” because we’ve never had actual experience doing whatever is, or we’ve never been successful at doing it or achieving it.

Staying with this example: I could never touch my toes.

Let’s dive into 3 ways you can shatter this statement!

1. Shift Your Mindset

Consider these questions:

  • Can you shift your mindset?
  • Can you shift your internal voice and ask a quality question?
  • How could I learn to touch my toes?
  • Is it possible that I COULD practice and learn to touch my toes?
  • Is this in the realm of possibilities?
  • Could I shift my mindset to believe this?

If you can’t shift your mindset, then you’re wasting your time.

Just don’t try.

Save yourself the aggravation and frustration because you’re going to prove yourself right.

This is true with ANYTHING in life!!

“Whatever you hold in your mind on a consistent basis is exactly what you will experience in your life.” Tony Robbins

So – SHIFT YOUR MINDSET – right meow.

2. Practice

Do some research. Find out what types of exercises are good for your hamstrings and hips and practice them daily!

If you practice 30-60 seconds a day, then you will make progress toward your goal.

Personal Story: I’ve always been able to touch my toes. After going to a few super hot Bikram Yoga classes, I realized that I could do something cool. I could put my entire hand under my foot. What! That’s crazy. I thought it was cool because before that, I didn’t know something like literally standing on your hands was possible. The heat and repetition allowed me to become more flexible and lean into different poses.

Practicing a technique is how you make progress, and through making progress you’ll see that it’s actually possible. Yay!

3. Purpose

Attack your “I could never” with a purpose.

If this is something you don’t really care about then why bother? Why would you go through the trouble to shift your mindset and practice?
If you don’t have a reason for doing this, then just take it off your radar. Thinking and talking about it is just bringing you negative energy. Blah!

Your purpose can be ANYTHING. Like – “I just want to.” {You’ll have to watch the video for my second personal story around 3:10}

That’s my tip for you today: if you think there’s something you can’t do, then shift your mindset, practice and have a purpose.

Tell me – What do you say you could never do?
