Learning to Be a Happier Human : Perfection

June is an anniversary month for me.

It’s been one year since I started on this “Tony Robbins journey.”  Last summer I attended my first conference and fell in love with the energy, the people, and the opportunity for growth.

Being on this journey has helped me to become a happier human.

I hope by sharing what I have learned over the past year, I will help you to move forward along your journey of becoming a happier human too.

What’s up with all the perfect people?

If perfection isn’t the goal, then what is?

Perfection does NOT equal happiness.

You’d be so bored if everything was perfect and you arrived at the perfect life day after day. The JOURNEY of progress and growth is where happiness lives.

I’m saying this to you with confidence because I struggle with this.

I’m an overachiever – only child – go getter type of person. I’m recovering from thinking that everything should be perfect all the time.  I’m recovering from getting bent out of shape when things don’t go my way.

Have you ever felt that way in your world?

I think this is something that most humans deal with especially with all the “perfect” people on social media.

Pro Tip: BELIEVE that social media is a highlight reel – a photo album – it’s not the complete picture of real life.

Watching the highlights from other people’s lives is fun and a great way to stay connected; however, it has nothing to do with your reality or self worth.

What matters are YOUR standards and what YOU want in your life.

How can you get closer to your goals and still be a happy human?

Great question.

First – acknowledge that perfection is an illusion and happiness is found in the progress.

Second – don’t go into a downward spiral when things aren’t perfect.

Third – take daily action toward your goals.

Fourth – celebrate the ANY and ALL progress you make even if you don’t get 100% what you want.
