All Inclusive Resorts – How to Choose & What to Beware Of

If you LOVE the beach, then you MUST go to an All-Inclusive Resort!

Seriously!

My first trip out of the USA was to Cancun, Mexico to an all-inclusive resort.  At first I was super nervous to travel to Mexico mostly because I wasn’t sure if people would speak English or if it would be safe.

Turns out it was totally safe and easy to find English speaking people. I remember being so excited to ride the public bus and interact with people from all over the world.

Basically, I fell in love.

You’ll want to consider a few things when choosing your all inclusive resort.

  • Beach – does it have a lot of sand versus rocks?
  • Room – is it nice? does it have a balcony or a hot tub?
  • Property Rules – is there a sister property you can go visit so you stay entertained the whole trip?
  • Food/Drinks – do they serve great guac, have several restaurants included, or include high end alcohol?
  • Entertainment – do they have nightly shows or events?
  • Other things – are they going to try to sell you a preferred membership? are many things actually not included?

You REALLY need to know before you go if the resort excludes things from your stay. The only things you can expect to be excluded are spa services. Everything else should be fair game.

Pro Tip: Get referrals or recommendations from people who have been!

The most important thing to ME is a high rise building with a room with a balcony overlooking the beach and ocean.  Cancun is has the most options for that type of setup, so that explains why I’ve been there 6 times!

Riu has been the most consistent brand that I’ve visited. Secrets was by far the nicest place I’ve been; however, they were non-stop with sales attempts. {not my kind of relaxation!}

The most important thing for YOU is to know what you’re looking for.

What is the most important feature to you?  That will help you narrow down the 100s of choices you’ll see if you just google. it.

Where are you going next!?

This is Part 2 in a series called All-Inclusive Resorts…. Here’s Part 1 if you missed it.
