How to Have a Good Day: Ask Questions, Learn

Do you know that feeling when you’re not understanding something that others think is so easy?

You don’t have to let that stress you out. Instead, use it as a learning opportunity to grow.

As much as I love being outside in the sun, I’m not much of a water person.

In the video below, I share a story of a paddle boat adventure turned learning experience.

Learning new skills is a good thing!

“If you’re not growing, you’re dying.” -Anthony Robbins

On vacation recently, we went to an adventure park and tested our fitness and bravery on a few things like zip lines, cave river boats and all terrain vehicles {including underground!}

I felt confident that I could tackle anything that had to offer – and then I met the paddle boats.

LOL

I quickly realized that my boat paddling skills are completely lacking.

Completely.

I did the opposite of what I was supposed to do – the whole time – so most of our 10 minute boat trip included crashing into the rocks.

I had a great guide giving me instructions; however, the instructions weren’t clicking with my brain.

We slowly made it through the twists and turns without getting stuck or getting frustrated. {whew!}

Later, I asked him – “Please explain this to me in a different way.”

So after a few minutes of feeling like a dummy and laughing about it – I finally figured it out.

“Push AWAY from the direction you don’t want to go.”

That made so much more sense to me than “paddle right, you’ll go left.”

The moral of this story is to choose CURIOSITY and LEARNING instead of frustration and stress.

Find someone that is willing to be patient and teach you something.

Realize that there’s not one right way, and you’re not wrong for not understanding.

Be brave enough to ask for help.

When you do this, you’ll be taking control of your situation and growing.  You’ll have more good days.

That’s amazing!

Send me a note and share with me the last time you asked for help and learned something new!

This is Part 2 in a series called How to Have a Good Day! Here is Part 1 if you missed it!
