Surprising New Results from Changing My Rules
Did you know that you have “rules” that are controlling your life?
We all have “rules” for life.
Examples: I must open the door for people near me. My friends must text me back within 1 hour or something is wrong. I must plan vacations 3 months in advance. I must drink water before each meal.
When we become aware of our rules, we can decide if they are right for our current life. Possibly you adopted some rules as a child or from your parents that no longer serve you.
I’ve been noticing lately that I’m bumping up against my rules.
One rule I noticed recently was my rule to plan in advance to go out of town. I was feeling stressed because an opportunity came up that I wanted to take – but it is happening fast – like in 14 days. My instinct was saying “No”, but my logic was saying – “hellooo this is totally fine, update your rules!”
Another rule I’ve had forever is that I don’t want to be around kids. I’m not sure why, but it’s a thing that I didn’t really question until recently.
A friend suggested that I become a “Big Sister” through the Big Brother Big Sisters of America organization. I was not familiar with this at all; however, I was curious.
I had a small voice saying “Check that out. It might be for you.”
I did some research and reached out to the local organization, and now I’m one step away from being paired with a little sister.
I’m excited to find out where this journey takes us! What fun things will we do together? {I’m taking ideas!!}
If I had listened to my arbitrary {or outdated} rule, then I wouldn’t be having this experience.
Pro Tip: Take action on the things you learn and the things that interest you even just a little bit. You never know where it will lead you.
You might have a cool experience that will change your life forever.
