Life Hacks – Worry or Excitement?

Have you noticed when you’re anticipating something you are either worried or excited?

Often, we don’t arrive an event {trip, interview, test, etc} without giving it a thought – we naturally think about it positively or negatively.

For simplicity, let’s call that worry or excitement.

If you’re aware of this, then which would you choose on purpose?

Excitement, right!?

You know in real life a lot of people {including me} choose worry.

We want to be certain about the outcomes or how the experience will be, so we worry about all the things that could go wrong or all the things we’re unsure about.

I agree that it’s normal; however, I am proclaiming that we can choose a different way.

Pro Tip: Check out this podcast where Tony Robbins talks about how needing to be certain interferes with a good quality of life.

We can choose to focus on the excitement or the good things that will come from the event.
We can interrupt ourselves if we start to talk about the negative things, and we can choose to talk about the good things.

I’ve seen this in my life over the past few months as I’ve been anticipating a very unusual travel schedule for July.

Many times I questioned if what I was doing was okay – “Could I really be away from my home and my in-person clients for 2 weeks? Would I even like being away for that long?”

As July slowly became “tomorrow” I started to get excited about my conferences and the people I would get to meet and the experiences I would get to have.

I wondered – “Why did I spend all that energy worrying about this? We have arrived and it’s going to be awesome.”

Now, I will be more mindful when I notice worrisome thoughts. I will choose to redirect them into action items for preparation or thoughts about why I’m excited or grateful about the event.

Do you think that sounds more peaceful?

I do.
