Motivation to start living healthier : I had reached my heaviest weight ever (180+) and was totally embarrassed to be seen without a shirt and was sluggish most every day. I had no healthy eating habits whatsoever and had never adjusted to my slowing metabolism. I still miss those late night Soul Burgers on a weekly basis; but I’ve found some pretty delicious healthy snacks to replace them (even if I do sneak one every few months).

What’s been easy along the way? : Honestly, the weight dropped off much faster than I ever anticipated! When you combine a fitness regimen with healthy(ier) eating, there can be dramatic changes quickly.

What’s been the most difficult? : Keeping up that same intensity I had the first few months. I’ve done a great job maintaining my ‘gains’ (more like losses!), but now it’s time to focus on getting to great shape and toning up my body. Oh, also buying a new wardrobe that fits has been rather difficult financially!

What are you most proud of? : My first reaction is to just be vain and say that I love running into people that I’ve not seen since I started working out with Lauren. But, the right answer is that I feel so much more energetic than I was this time last year!

How do you celebrate milestones? : Though I’ve drastically cut the amount I have, there’s nothing like a good celebratory beer that I know I’ve already worked off! Being able to do some of the things I did before and know that I’m still improving myself is a lot of fun.

Favorite way to get fit : Well, the hour workouts I’ve had with Lauren since May are definitely the highlight! She’s a ton of fun to talk to and educate about all the things going on in Memphis!

First word that comes to mind when I say Burpees : “Wednesday”

Go to healthy meal : Quinoa Crunch Bowl at Lyfe Kitchen + aaall the fireman’s sauce they’ll give me.

Favorite food you didn’t like before : I eat a tremendous amount of broccoli now. I didn’t much mind it before, but I never sought it out like I do now!

Favorite “fun” food : Well, my favorite meals are typically the family style ones where everyone orders a couple things and then shares. But, if I had to pick just one, it would definitely be the special at Bedrock Eats & Sweets. I realize that changes daily, but I ALWAYS order the special because I’ve yet to be disappointed!

What makes you smile? : Travel! I’m looking forward to this summer where I will actually be excited to go shirtless in the sun!

Being healthy is a journey – What’s next? : Haha honestly, I just want to get some veins showing in my arms and legs! I definitely see them when I work out, but I think I can make them a regular appearance!

Where can we bump into you? : All of downtown really! I’m often catching lunch at Bedrock and bouncing around Loflin Yard. The occasional weekend outing to dance at Tin Roof as well (though that limits my leg workouts for a couple days!)

What can we call you for help with? : Advice on how I changed my lifestyle (which wasn’t as radical as some may think!) Also, you’re going to see a LOT of pictures of food! Scott Stewart on FB (The one with a ridiculously happy Gator fan in the middle of two Georgia fans in Florida gear!)

Favorite Scott-ism : It’s important to remember where you’ve been and to look forward to where you are going, but you are only in the present this once; make the most of it!
