Brain Food for Achievers: Part 2

Ready for another brain food group?

When we are learning, we are growing, and when we are growing we are happier achievers.

Part 1 was all about Live Events.

Books!

You might be thinking: “I have no time to read.”

“I always fall asleep when I try to read.” or “Reading sucks!”

I used to be the same way! I would only read for school, Harry Potter or Twilight. That was it!

After college, I met people that would say, “omg you must read this book!”

Logically I knew it was a good idea, but I wasn’t sure how to make it happen.

3 Tricks for Reading Books

  1. Make it simple – soooo simple that you cannot find an excuse – 10 pages a day. You’d feel bad if you skipped it – it’s just 10 pages! Pro Tip: Read through every page that ends in a zero and then stop.
  2. Stack it – with another habit so it’s a trigger – while you’re drinking coffee or on your lunch break.
  3. Share it or Record it – make a point to share something you read on social media or with a friend – Make it fun by having pretty highlighters or stickers in your book!

Take Action Now: Choose a book start reading your 10 pages a day!

5 of My Favorite Books

You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life – “This is about getting mighty clear about what makes you happy and what makes you feel most alive, and then creating it instead of pretending you can’t have it.”

Better Than Before: What I Learned About Making and Breaking Habits–to Sleep More, Quit Sugar, Procrastinate Less, and Generally Build a Happier Life – “When we distract ourselves, we purposely redirect our thoughts, and by doing so, we change our experience. Distraction can help us resist temptation, minimize stress, feel refreshed, and tolerate pain, and it can help us stick to our good habits.”

Stop Saying You’re Fine: The No-BS Guide to Getting What You Want – “The powerful you is always there waiting, like a switch inside you that needs to be turned on! It’s the part of you that loves discovery, curiosity, challenges, exercise, connecting with other people, checking off goals, taking action, heading somewhere, and talking out loud. It is a force inside you that wants to grow, move, and expand. All you have to do is locate the switch and turn it on.”

The Slight Edge: Turning Simple Disciplines into Massive Success and Happiness“The truth is, what you do matters. What you do today matters. What you do every day matters. Successful people just do the things that seem to make no difference in the act of doing them and they do them over and over and over until the compound effect kicks in.”

The Total Money Makeover: Classic Edition: A Proven Plan for Financial Fitness – “If you will live like no one else, later you can live like no one else.”

My favorite thing about consuming book brain food is it gives you vocabulary to help you understand yourself more.

When you understand yourself more you can understand others more, and when you understand others more LIFE IS BETTER.

Don’t we all want our life to be even better?

BONUS: Surprise a friend or client with a book you think they’d find valuable. Amazon it to them!
