Adventures – Go Ape Treetop Adventure

Saturday, some friends and I went to Shelby Farms to conquer the Go Ape Treetop Adventure.

Most of us workout together weekly, so we thought this course would be a good test of our strength and sense of adventure!

We were right!!

The morning started with several safety instructions and demonstrations.

Once we left camp, we were in the trees on our own. No guide!

However, many instructors were down below watching us and shouting tips if someone needed help.

Here’s what I liked:

  • The physical challenge – Not only was it outside in the Memphis summer heat, it also required some agility and grip strength. I enjoyed trying to do the obstacles without holding on or without using the safety line.  {that was almost impossible}

  • The mental challenge – If you asked me if I’m afraid of heights, I’d say no; however, as I literally climbed up the side of a tree and then prepared to jump off a platform – I got a little nervous.  Since I had already done the course a couple years ago, I decided to push myself by minimizing “hesitation time.”  To me, it’s a good life lesson to practice – Show Up. Assess Quickly. Jump Now.

  • The team work – Our group stayed close together the entire time and shared advice for crossing a path, or gave encouragement for leaping off the zip line platform. Encouraging people is one of my favorite things.

Here’s what other ladies had to say about the adventure:

I tested by strength, endurance, agility, and most of all fear — and I passed thanks to a little help from my friends! – Liz M.

I’d love to know where you go for adventures! Send me a note so I can add your suggestion to my “trying new things” list!

This is Part 1 in a series called Adventures!
